Overview & History

Galway’s Vintage Car Club (W.V.V.M.C.) was founded in 1977 and has grown to be one of the largest clubs in Ireland. The WVVMC has almost 200 enthusiastic members and organises at least 10 events per year. The main event every year is the Summer Run, better known as the WestRun which always takes place towards the end of July, after the Galway Arts Festival and just before the Galway Races. We also have an annual Run for cars Pre-1955. The club’s AGM takes place on the first Monday in November each year.

The WVVMC publishes a quarterly newsletter. This magazine contains articles, technical information,  events, advertisements, cars for sale, parts for sale and more. Members are encouraged to write stories about their car restoration projects, events and trips, which can be sent to the Communications Director, Mark Rodgers, at wvvmc.newsletter@gmail.com .

If you wish to become a member (it is not mandatory to own a veteran, classic or sports car to join the club), just visit the membership page.

History

At the conclusion of the 1977 I.V.V.C.C. Autumn Rally in Galway a few enthusiast motorists, got together with the idea of forming a vintage motoring club in the West of Ireland.

The date was September 4th, 1977. Gay Brennan chaired the meeting and before long Tommie Tuck R.I.P. was elected chairman, Owen Quinn Hon. Secretary, Emmett Boyle R.I.P. Hon. Treasurer, and the committee comprised of the following members: John and Tom Connor, Joe Cann, Mary Tuck, Thomas Healy RIP, Kevin Leahy and Malcolm Alexander RIP, who was elected President, thus was the W.V.V.M. Club formed. Ireland West Tourism hosted a Press Conference to launch the Club and many notable motoring enthusiasts from around the country attended. Even enthusiast car owners from abroad joined the Club.

The Club has since achieved considerable status throughout the country and abroad. Over the years the club has been involved in many parades, festivals, and rallies, and has supported many charity events like Amphicat, Cancer Care, Share-a-Dream, contributed to various social occasions and participated in other Classic Car Club events.

We always welcome the motoring enthusiast and should you require any further information about our club please contact Mark Rodgers at  wvvmc.newsletter@gmail.com
