* WestRun 2008.....25th/26th/27th July
The 2008 WestRun, organised by the Western Veteran and Vintage Motor Club Limited, will be held over the weekend of the 25th, 26th and 27th July.
This year will see a change in the format of the event, hopefully, to make it more attractive to our many visitors from places other than Galway, and will incorporate a grand tour of Connemara and staying in Clifden on the Saturday night where the annual Gala Ball will take place.
A brief resume of the proposed weekend is as follows:
Friday 25th July, 2008:
Static Display and registration at the Spanish Arch from 2pm to 6pm, followed by a pre run reception and informal get together in the Salthill Hotel from 9pm. Finger food and music will be provided.
Saturday 26th July, 2008:
Leave Salthill Hotel from 10.00am and travel via Barna, Spiddal, Inverin, Costello, Screeb, Killkieran, Carna, Glinsk, Cashel, Roundstone, Ballyconneely and into Clifden, where there will be a static display in the Square from arrival to about 5.30pm. There are numerous hostelries and premises on route for those wishing to avail of refreshments. The annual Gala Ball will be held in the Station House Hotel with proceedings commencing with dinner at 9.00pm sharp. A full list of accomodation (B & Bs, hotels, etc.) will be circulated, together with a price list, with the entry forms somewhat nearer the time.
Sunday 27th July, 2008:
Cars will leave the Station House Hotel, Clifden at 11.00am and travel via the Skye Road to Moyard, Letterfrack, Kylemore Abbey, Leenane, Maam Valley, Maam Cross and Oughterard on the return journey to Galway.
The motto for the 2008 WestRun will be a very enjoyable weekend with a run through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country.
